Tianjin: Just as Pimp my Ride.

January 26th, 2007 by mago

History is the shit! And Tianjin is full of it, trust me. People seem to love history cause Tianjin is on the top twenty list “Most crowded places”: history don’t come for free. As China’s third biggest city it also come with some skyscrapers, a couple of hundred to be specific but not really any super talls. The Tianjin Tv-tower surrounded by…what?

Thanks god the Chinese know how to lit things up…

But just as in Gorkij park and Pimp my ride “Thing’s is about to change” but saying it this time is sir Atkins Walters Webster at the appropriately named Atkins Walters Webster -Design Group.

Shanghai, China: Another twister…

January 24th, 2007 by mago

Another twisting skyscraper in the footsteps of the Turning Torso in
Malmö, Sweden but this must be one of the better in it’s class,
I mean -what a beast! And what luck they switched design…

New Design. Photo courtesy to John Portman & Associates International, Inc

Cause 30-St-Mary-Axe -like designs like that is only good enough for
smaller cities like London. (I realise I pretty much have sentenced
myself to death know…)

Old Design. Photo courtesy to: Not a single soul.

However it’s only proposed but perhaps you wou like to know it’s name
anyway:

Fast Facts:

North Bund International Cruise Terminal
Status: Proposed
Height: 321 m(1053 ft)

Shanghai, China, North Bound Tower IS under construction.

January 16th, 2007 by mago

This picture is a bit old and I know some minor changes has made it
into the final design but most importantly - North Bound Tower 2 is
still under construction, there has been a lack of info around this
project, to say the least.

Personal opinion: Looks like crap. Photo courtesy to Giallo.

Known info:

North Bund Tower 2
Status: Under Construction
Expected Completion: Not known.
Height: 388 m(1273 ft)
Floors: 72

Shanghai, China: Hard to pronunce.

January 10th, 2007 by mago

Shanghai, China:

This baby not only look tall, it is tall, 460 m or 1509
ft to be specific and what should we name it? Fortunately the Chinese
already taken care of the naming part for us(We woulden’t want our baby
to be picked on because of some strange foreign name would we?) and
Xujiahui Tower 2 is what they call it. Unfortunately it’s only proposed.

For more info John Portman & Associates is probably your best bet. The skyscraper is 92 floor by the way…

It’s no bloody siesta guys!

January 6th, 2007 by mago

Is Shanghai’s new tallest ever going to be topped out? Under construction
  since 1997 with several “on-holds” and “re-designs”
makes the most optimistic f*ck consider a rope somewhere…This is what
it used to look like, before the refurbishment:

and this is the after picture…

…See the difference? Going from a bloody hole to a rectangle in eight
years of time -nice progress boys! Nah, enough of this sarcasm, can’t
help it sometimes, it’s actually one of my favourite projects at the
time. Sorry. Portraited on the picture is also Shanghai’s current tallest,
the Jin Mao building, which will be beaten with over 60 m (200 ft)!
A six star hotel will occupy the top most floors and cross the rectangle
will be an open-air skybridge making it the tallest outdoor observation
deck in the world! And the credits goes to Danish-American collaboration
Kohn Pedersen Fox Accosiates PC and East China Architectural Design
& Research Institute Co. Ltd, let us keep our fingers crossed for
  2008 folks!

  Fast Facts:

  Shanghai World Financial Center

  Status: Under Construction

  Expected Completion: 2008

  Height: 492 m(1614 ft)

  Floors: 101

Another crazy vision…

January 3rd, 2007 by mago

Come across another crazy vision for Shanghai: the M Tower. Speculations
seems to have been going on for a while but I can’t find any renderings
or official data bout it. However rumours speaks about heights over
900 m (2950 ft) and that’s all I can give you for now.

Crazy place

January 2nd, 2007 by mago

Shanghai. Mythical trade center and over a thousand skyscrapers I hardly
think this city needs any further introduction.

As the current tallest title holder in Shangai you better get used
to beeing challenged. For now the title is beeing held by the Jin Mao
(skyscraper) or the Oriental Pearl (Tower), depending on how you measure,
of which both will be beaten in 2008 by the Shanghai World Financial
Center, already under construction. But compared to the envisioned Bionic
Skyscraper they are all nuthing but matchsticks:

1128 meters or 3700 feets of pubic complex. Photo courtesy to Pioz, Cervera, Celaya.

The Complex, making up a medium sized city has also been envisioned(great
word isn’t it?)for Hong Kong and is two of about ten or so buildings
who may come to challenge the Burj Dubai in the future, I’ll keep you
  updated!
  Facts (For now):

  Bionic Tower

  Status: Vision

  Height: 1128 m(3700 ft)

  Floors: 200
