New design for Russia Tower, when completed the tallest building in Europe! Here it is:

Replacing this building, also by Foster + Partners

Can’t say I prefer any design over the other, really, both are exactly my taste(something which not happen very often). The height of 600 m, 1969 ft is impressive and the brutal design will fit in very well in the Moscow skyline. The skyscraper has recieved very good feedback and seem very likely to get built as officials already have given very positive comments. The status is proposed and completion set to 2011, let’s cross our fingers :-)

Fast Facts:

Russia Tower
Status: Proposed
Expected Completion: 2011
Height: 600 m(1969 ft)
Floors: 118(!)

I certainly not hope this is the new design of Moscow’s new City Hall and City Duma complex:

I really liked that red-ish building!

However it’s UC, alright:

Maby you could judge the final design by the under constructuion pic, here’s the old(?) one again:

Fast Facts:

City Hall and City Duma
Status: Under construction
Expected Completion: 2009
Height: 307 m(1012 ft)

To be admired: The Russians.

June 8th, 2007 by mago

Improving this…

The Moscow Duma(City hall)

…ain’t very hard. Yup, Moscow is getting a new City Hall and Duma and best of all, it’s already under construction and it will take shape as a skyscraper! Quite a spectacular one to:

Could the unknown architect come from Barcelona maby? Or maby London? The Bridge
looks very much like one certain Millenium Bridge of over the river Themes.Hm.

I have to say I admire the Russians Though, this is quite a dearing project for a city hall! But although being constructed as we speak and expected completion in 2009 there is still alot of question marks around this project. First of all, the project is supposed to consist of four equally tall buildings(307 m, 1012 ft) but I haven’t seen any images with four buildings(The surrounding skyscrapers on the picture are the Federal complex amongst others.) Also some completely different renderings have been circulating the net. I’ ll get back to you on this, be so sure!

Where the magic will be happening, we hope.

Europes new tallest for Moscow.

May 18th, 2007 by mago

New York based Frank Williams & Associates is behind this tower, Europe’s new tallest! Being constructed as we speak the site is located in the Presnensky area it’s in the right neighbourhood but still quite far away from the rest of the skyscraper construction n the “Moscow-City” area.

Not a very Russian Design.

Topping out in 2008, but not yet known exactly when, the Vostok skyscraper which was announced as “Europes next tallest” still might be able to hold the title for a few months as it’s being completed this year as well. However Europes current tallest, the Canada Square in London will be outcompeted by several hundred feets so now some ignorante people claim Russia ain’t Europe…

Fast Facts:

Mercury City Tower
Status: Under construction
Expected Completion: 2008
Height: 380 m(1247 ft)
Floors: 70

In Moscow the Federation Complex grows on

April 28th, 2007 by mago

Said news for Vostok, good news for us! Vostok tower will only hold the Europe’s tallest title for a month or so, The Mercury, 380 m, 1245 ft is UC! But regardless, this is the Vostok thread and given the share massiveness of this tower their is no need to neglect it. You others can check out The Mercury over Here.

As a part of the giant Federation complex, part of the new business zone “Moscow-City”, the Vostock skyscraper is the tallest with the east tower reaching 354 m, 1161 ft followed by the west tower at 242 meters, 795 ft height. Global Hyatt Corporation will accoupy mor then half of the building but their is still room for a sky-bar and the bridges connecting the towers will be jammed with restaurants and coffea shops.

Rumour says a third tower, “Tower C” 448 m, 1471 ft will join the others and it’s actually in the plan but no activity has been spotted at the plot this far.

Fast Facts:

Vostok
Status: Under construction
Expected Completion: 2008(UC since 2003)
Height: 354 m(1161 ft)
Floors: 93

From Russia with…hm, pirog’s and well love.

March 1st, 2007 by mago

17 th biggest city in the world, can you guess it? It’s Moscow I’m talking about, but for old cold war’s sakes let’s be fair and also mention it’s 6th place back in 1950, measuring city-size is always a tricky thing and some mean Moscow is Europes largest city and so maybee cause nr of human beeings in a crowded place is not what we’re here to read about.

But Russian Pirog’s are? First of all this is actually a Swedish Pirog but that’s not
important and second of all I’m not trying to freak you out, it actually IS a pirogue it’s just
it’s not beein heated in the microwave yet and foremost of all: I’m trying to make a point here which
is that population in comparition with skycrapers is out of just as little of importance as the nationality of a pirogue.
I think.

To lead the subject into what it’s intended to be let’s talk alittle bit about monumentalism. Moscow IS monumentalism and No, I’m not drunk. With monumentalism is Moscow come height and here height doesn’t necessarily have to involve skyscrapers.

The 330 ft, 100 m tall space monument for example.

Other examples of this is churches in funny colors with a onion on top. However also skyscraper have had it’s era in Russian(Soviet) history. The Seven Sister skyscrapers where built in Stalinist style in the 1940, 1950:s.

The tallest of the seven sisters, Vysotniye Zdaniya
(Moscow State University) 240 m, 785 ft tall.

Not to forget of course is also the Ostankino TV Tower, once the tallest free standing structure in the world at 540 m, 1772 ft.

So tall it won’t even fit on the picture, let me se if I can find a better one…

Hm, well, maby representative for a troubled past, dunno.
Check out better Ostankino pics here if you want.

But just as the wind have changed down i Gorkij park so has building style and politics and also the skyline. It’s tallest at the moment, the Triumph-Palace is however not very representative of this but at least it’s fairly new and represents the current upswing of skyscrapers.(4 buildings UC abow 1000 ft, 300 m)

Triumph palace, 264 m 866 ft and the tallest of Moscow.
Topped out in 2005 believe it or not.
